Sub-workshops
Six sub-workshops will be conducted to reflect the different interests of the participants, and to create a smaller scale environment for better interaction.
The topics of the workshop are a mix of broad-based topics such as legislation for air quality management and institutional arrangements for air quality management, while others are more specific such as control of stationary sources of pollution.
Here is the full list of proposed sub-workshop topics:
- Strategic Air Quality Management (planning & implementation)
- Air Quality Monitoring (management, operation & data dissemination)
- Control of Stationary Sources of Pollution
- Motor Vehicle Emission Control
- Institutional Arrangements for Air Quality Management (legislation, funding, and capacity building)
- Climate Change
Each sub-workshop will have two lead experts -- one international expert from outside Asia, and one from within Asia. These lead experts will be requested to assist in the formulation of the objectives and scope of the individual sub-workshop. They will also be invited to take part in selection and review of presentations to be made in the sub-workshops.
To ensure consistency in approach and to avoid too much overlap between sub-workshops, the Organizing Committee will take on an active role in coordinating the involvement of the lead experts and their activities.
The program of the sub-workshops is divided over the three days of the BAQ workshop as follows:
Day 1 (13.30 -17.00) - Introduction to the sub-workshops by two lead experts who will introduce the themes to be addressed by the sub-workshops. A number of presentations that have been reviewed by the lead experts will also be delivered to ensure consistency with objectives and scope of the sub-workshops. Participants will be asked before the start of the workshop to select 3 sub-workshops in order of priority in which they would like to take part.
Day 2 (13.30 - 17.00) - Sub-workshops reconvene with the same participants as in the afternoon of Day 1 to discuss the formulations of recommendations to be presented in the plenary on Day 3; these will become part of the overall recommendations of the workshop.
Day 2 (evening) - Organizing Committee representatives and volunteers will meet to integrate the recommendations of the individual sub-workshops in one document for presentation to the plenary.
Day 3 (9.00 - 10.30) - Specialized presentations in the form of poster sessions will be made. Presentations are expected to fit in with one of the sub-workshop themes. These poster sessions will enable a large number of participants to make a presentation. Workshop participants will be free to attend the presentation of their choice. Presenters will be requested to repeat their presentation twice within the 1 1/2 hours reserved for the poster session.
Day 3 (10.30 - 12.00) - Presentation and discussion of the synthesis of recommendations in the plenary.
